Hello all ! I’ve been lurking here for many years. Kids are grown and I am tired of the 7 to 5 work schedule teaching diesel mechanic classes. I’m ready to drive and let someone else fix stuff.
I have a wife who is from Thailand and we inherited the family farm recently. I’m looking for company who would let me or how to go about taking a month off work maybe twice a year. I know some people here have places in other countries too.
I am 53 years old in good health and no debt. Just trying to work a few more years before retiring overseas.
Companies that let you take a month off work?

Best way to do that is to work for a Temp Service that hires CDL drivers.
Can work when you want to.
Trillium is one of several.
Where are you located?

My thoughts, you can probably grease the wheels at the company you want to do this at. But, my thoughts are technically you'll be considered quitting and then hired back. As long as you're a decent driver, probably won't be difficult to pre-arrange. But, from the company's perspective, may be a stretch for them to let you have a month off and remain inactive on the payroll for that length of time. But, I very well could be mistaken.
My 'dilemma' with that sort of thing is that I like to stay out for 2 to 3 months and then take a full week off. They don't have any problem with that, except if I'm out of my truck longer than 5 days, the company could reseat a different driver in my truck. I'm seriously attached to 'my' truck and that's a big no no for me. So, what I usually end up doing is taking 5 days instead. But, on the 4th or 5th day, I call them and tell them something's come up and I need an extra couple of days. Folks I work for know what I'm doing, but it keeps me in my truck. Folks I work for helped to get me into my truck (it was brand new with only 13 miles) and they are very aware how important it is for me to remain in my truck. So, they go along without complaint.austinmike, Another Canadian driver, tscottme and 2 others Thank this. -
