Would it be safe to say that the outfits that run ads every month are the ones with the worst turnover and should be avoided?:Courier:

In defense of the large companies, with that many employees (10,000) there is going to be a turnover. Any large company needs to constantly advertise even if all seats are full. Because things change at a rapid pace and placing ads takes a month from phone call to actual print. These companies need their name out there all the time. As well as a list of applicants at the ready. Pity the poor company who suddenly gets a contract needing 250 drivers tomorrow and isn't currently advertising.

All depends who you ask,me personally,it doesn't matter to me if I work for one of these mega companies as long I make a pay check each week and happy where i'm at.

Well, most of those outfits may have a higher volume of turnover compared to smaller carriers, but they must be a good fit for some drivers because each of those big carriers has a number of drivers that have stayed around for a couple of decades. Any carrier, large or small, just like any other relationship. Both parties must be a good match or there will be problems. If one learns to ask the right questions early on, it is easier to find out if a good match is possible, before having to determine it the hard way.

In my experience the smaller companies have always treated me better. I have always been unhappy at the big ones unless they were LTL. I have always been on dedicated accounts my whole career. The reason I like dedicated is I know when I will always be home and what I will be paid. I have mostly run teams, companies seem to prefer that. Although I would prefer solo. Most of my career has been Shaky town to NJ and back. Home every weekend, drop n hook, small company. I don't get benefits but I'm on my wife's insurance. I make about $1100 per trip (not the best pay) and can take as much time off as needed. Trucks are a little old and running teams is getting old but it's really not a bad deal for me. Not for everyone though. I did different dedicated accounts which were fun and got to see more of the country. I also did OTR irregular freight for about 6 months but I didn't like waiting for loads and sitting for 2 weeks one time! It seems to me that most of the big OTR companies are training companies. That's how it seemed when I was at CRST. I was on one of their dedicated accounts though and loved it. I ran dedicated UPS for CRST to KY airport. Was drop n hook and a great job.

Just because a company advertises for drivers has nothing to do with how you will be treated. Advertising keeps their name out there and helps to keep their trucks filled with drivers. This industry has had a high turnover rate for many years. The easiest way to keep a pool of new applicants is through advertising.
