Hello,
I drive for Stevens Transport currently and have about 4 months experience. I am planning on making a switch when I have either 6 or 12 months experience. I'm currently doing research into companies. I live in Tucson, AZ. I would like to be more local or regional, getting home at least weekly. Does anybody have some insight?
Thanks

He or she would make more working for Taco Bell ... and get treated like more of a human being.
If I resided in Tucson, and had 6 months to a year of experience, I would find work with a private fleet. Their pay scale is not so skewed based upon experience.
Best question for the op is what kind of driving does he want to do (van, flat, refrigerated, food service, tank, end dump, hazmat), and how much does he want to make. There are quite a few different opportunities to chose from.
There is a class b mobile refuel'er position constantly open because it pays crap ($16 an hour) in Tucson. But it would be home every night ... and pay tons more than Mexican Knight ever would.
By the way I do like your recommendation of Coastal. That would be dependent on having Hazmat. Options open up for fuel hauling / acid / environmental depending on the endorsements the op possesses.
There are some truly local options like hauling trash, or working for a couple private fleets once he hits that golden 1 year of experience. -

Tucson kinda sucks for local work.
The main ones are:
Saguaro Trucking: bad equipment
Costal: honestly your best bet
CTI: they will burn you out
Eagle KMC: fleet leased to Werner
DSW: Fleet leased to swift
Titan Transfer (Formally Reynolds Logistics): I'm biased for these guys cause I worked for them for 6 months. We had the worst trucks around and a 99% Csa. Then these guys from tenesse bought us. Everyone at the main office was great deal with and Charles from operations even helped load my truck. Don't call breakdown unless you have to, they and maintanece are snippy. I could have been home every week but I chose to run. New crapcadia autos that have Apus or you can idle no penalty. Some trucks do 65 some do 70. They say it's assigned trucks but there is a little bit of slip seatage. It's forced dispatch but if you tell them you want to stay out of a certain state they will be cool about it. Fuel wherever you want p/fj or loves. Route how you like just get there in time. Some trucks have prepass and pike pass some don't. Same with driver cameras. Pay is .29 a mile. You will run 80%-wait on a dock light-I'm here for (xpo, schieder,Stevens) for that 2000+ mile run with them. When I was on a run for Stevens that was coast to coast I asked the Stevens rep why she was giving this run away when they had staving l/p in the company. I made some fat paycheck by asking to not have the pay one week and lumping it on another and getting the mileage bonus. Stay out of Indiana and Detroit or you will get the pickup at 12am and then 6am run.Last edited: Mar 15, 2016
