I have read that training at Community Colleges is a good place to start and get a CDL.Most posts stated it was between $700.00 - $900.00 for the course.

The ONLY Community College in Chicago to offer training is Olive Harvey College and they charge $4000.00 !!!3rd largest city in the country and only one college offers CDL training !?

Are their any College training courses in Illinois that are under $1000.00 and offer a payment plan ?

I will be going for the WIA grant , but I would rather start ASAP instead of waiting a few months for the grant to go through ,then another month or so for the school.

    Thanks

Hi, Elgin Community College has Truck Driver Training available. I'm not sure what the cost is though. You will have to Google them. Once there it is under Continuing education: Programs of Study: Career/Technical Programs: Truck Driving. Hope this helps.

There are many driving schools in the city that only charge like $1500 or something.

Waubonsee Community College, has their truck driving school is in Plano, IL.
Kishwaukee Community College of Malta, IL has a truck driving school. Their truck yard is on the East side of DeKalb. Tuition for each of them is real close to $3795.00 The course is 4 weeks long, three of which are behind the wheel. Student:teacher ratios are small.
Illinois Valley also has a similar truck driving program and they will take an Illinois Veteran's Grant whereas the other two will not.
Placement rates are high on all of them.
    Best wishes on your career.

Check Joliet Junior College I just graduated their end of Aug. small class sizes 7-12 had 7 prehires out of 9 apps. Instructers are top notch. They operate under the name Preimer truck driving school.815-723-3647. 4 week course 3 behind wheel we had all students in our class pass. 4145 dollars that covers everthing. If you read this site you know other guys from other states worry about not being able to pass a yard and road test with a company. I cant speak for other schools but I have no worrys about angle or straight line backing double down or single down. They teach you everthing you need to know and then some if you know what I mean. Most of them used to work for TDI in Channahon Il

$4000.00 is about right. How long is the course? My course at Bates CC in Tacoma, Wa ran $3900.00 and was two quarters long. It was also a PTDI certified course.
