I live in the Columbus, Ohio area and was told by recruiting that Averitt has a small drop yard there. Can anyone confirm that? Also, what is the freight volume like in the northern areas. They say the current pay for northern domiciles is .425/mi. Is that because there isn't much freight in those areas or just because of the geographics of the region? I haven't filled out my app. yet but have done the initial screening over the phone.
I've been driving trucks about 14yrs now and over the last year had to take a local job driving dump trucks to be home with some ill family members. I'm ready to get back on the road as things have improved at home. I think I will be a good candidate for the refresher course.
I've been doing this long enough to not let the negatives or the positives influence my way of thinking, but to go into it with a positive attitude and work it to the best of my ability. Trucking truly is what YOU make of it. Not enough drivers grab that concept and typically have bad things to say about situations that don't have to be negative or detrimental to the way they live their lives.
Sorry, I got off on a rant there. It does get me sometimes to see how easily people will jump to conclusions on these forums about how a company should run in their favor before really thinking things through about how the company operates as a whole. Trucking companies are out to make money, plan and simple. It is rare that you find one that "does what it can" to keep drivers happy in this struggling economic atmosphere. Bottom line is, drivers are tools and need to be utilized to serve the companies BOTTOM LINE. Many drivers tend to think they are to be catered to on a daily basis and every whim is to be satisfied.
Columbus Ohio area any info is appreciated

I am not a driver yet, but I live on the West Side in Columbus, and they have a drop yard on Norton Rd real close to Hall rd. I don't know anything about their pay or freight volume.
clinton70 Thanks this. -
Knight transportation has a terminal right on the 70/270 split on the west side. My school also told me about a company called Cleopatra Trucking out of Columbus. Don't know anything about them though.

I work out of the yard in Columbus it is just someplace to park they don't have any offices there. As far a the freight goes I have never had a problem getting a load out of Columbus or back to there for home time. You will do most of your driving in the south and Midwest. if you have any other questions let me know.
