Hey fellas,
The last 3 days i've made the same runs pretty much. Started with a full tank monday morning. Burned 1/4 tank monday and tuesday. Today, upon arriving at home after making the same run, I was sitting below a 1/4 of a tank. Call me crazy but I'm just wandering if I have enough fuel to make it tomorrow and back to where I started Friday before I fill up. I talked around with some people and they say Freightliner fuel gauges are notorious for being inaccurate and misreading. Before I drive though I figured I would ask some pros with more experience.

Its allways best to have close to full tanks than close to empty tanks,Use aq stick on level ground to ck. the fuel gauge, The last 1/4 of a tank has less fuel that can be used because of fuel draw line is above the bottom of tank to keep from drawing water from bottom of tank, also if you are stopped on a hill at a red light the fuel can be away from draw tube and will let you run out of fuel even if you still have 1/4 tank on gauge?

Yeah man, my driver was wanting to just wait til friday to fuel up again but i told him he may as well go ahead and get about 40 gallons. Rather be safe than sorry

I only use the dash readout for my fuel. The Guage has never been accurate from day one. The dash readout may be off as well especially if you idle. However it will show you have less than what you really have so it lies in a good way.

Never use the gauge; fuel up w/diesel based on using the miles traveled & avg. mpg

I heard this piece of sound advice from an old veteran driver/owner: "Know what the most inaccurate guage on your truck is? The fuel guage." True that.
I have wrestled this dragon, and wound up sidestepping the whole issue. My odometer is pretty accurate, so like Jerry12 I use miles as a guide for fuel stopping, that and Truckers Path fuel outlet listings. Also, in winter/cold months I try to stay at 50% or more fuel level. You never know.
Question: why wait to fuel anyway? Fuel is something it's kinda necessary to have, right? If you're thinking about it, it's time to stop, pretty much.
I guess these Columbia's don't have low fuel warning indicator? My '08 doesn't seem to, and I've run it pretty far down there.
