I just got an oil change and the oil is black when I check the oil. What color should the oil be in a big rig be after an oil change? Similar to the color of a cars oil (more copper looking)?

Black is completely normal. Gasoline engines don't produce near the soot levels as diesels do.

Diesel engine oil will become black. Some older Cummings might take a week or so. Hino's 20 years ago had black oil on the stick when checked after oil change run. Both were dependable engines.

If in doubt, mark your oil and fuel filters.

Black for sure. Sometimes it will be a thin black so you can see through it a bit on the dip stick. Just follow the owners manual on when to change it next, or sooner.
Oil analysis would be a good cheap investment to be sure.Jdm5jdm5 Thanks this. -
Certain engines like the dd15 hold some oil in the pan by design so not all of it gets changed .. any egr engine the oil turns black really fast.. I know a few isx engines that were (fixed in a illegal manner) that the oil now stays clean awhile after oil changes . If worried take a oil sample to a lab not speedco and check results

I never will understand how the ISX stays brown and clear for as long as it does. Series 60 is black after oil change. It looks just like they put the old oil back in. After 5 minutes of run time.

My volvo has kept its Rotella same color for 1000 miles after oil change....no hint of black creeping in
