As some of you may know, the power cords on rhe coleman coolers melt when they heat up for too long, the average lifespan onthese coolers ive discovered are about one year unless you repair em. The main ththings that go wrong with these coolers are the plugs and the fans. Ive replaced the cord with another 12v power cord by simply snipping the two ends off and twisting them together with tape. Make sure that + to + and -to- . Basically, make sure they don't smoke when you plug it in. The fan can easily be replaced just by unscrewing. They are sold at any hardware store for about 99¢. The 12v plugs are sold individually at any truck stop for about $10. Ive replaced my 12v plug on the power cord of my coleman cooler (twice) and is going pretty strong! About 1.5 years...

Before I made the move to a dorm fridge, I had them all. IMO, Igloo makes the best one.
MrMustard Thanks this. -
ive had my coleman for almost 4 years. barely works but its enough to have a cooler drink. Im on the 2nd peltier, 2nd fan, umpteenth cord. since i changed the peltier to a slightly bigger one, i had to upgrade to 12 gauge cord. I tried a dorm fridge but the dang things dont fit in the cubby behind the seat so it took up to much room so back to the coleman.

I'm with Condocruiser. I've had the Coleman, I didn't know how bad it sucked until I replaced it with an Igloo.

I just recently did the same "snip-n-change" on my Coleman...got it in December...hoping to get the full year out of it.
I'll try the Igloo next time...everyone seems to be pretty satisfied with that brand. -
I have had mine for 3 years and never had a problem with it. It will still freeze a single pop of left in there too long

One time I had one of them smaller Coleman 12V coolers that hold about an 12 pack. I woke up to a smoke filled cabin gagging. The cooler was a melted glob. I snatched it up and threw it out the door. I was lucky it didn't kill me. I'm real leary about them coolers. The plug is fused. But evidently it didn't work right that night. I bought it at a yard sale and used it a month. They probably had tinfoil for a fuse?
The Igloo I had lasted 3 years before I sold it. I had to buy one power cord for it is all. I think I got the cord off ebay? -
Everyone of them had fuses in them and they were not blown.
Just a melted plug.
