Got a question for you all - what type of OTC cold medicine is OK to take? Klingon got himself a cold with a sore throat, runny/stuffy nose and chest congestion (East Coast Bugs - and COLD weather!!) - we were thinking Day Quil?? It says non drowsy formula - but I know they will probably do a post training UA - plus I want him to be able to drive safely!! THAT is the most important thing - so what do you all take when you get under the weather??

Thats what I take Day Quill. I dont think that should bother him and im not aware of any companies doing a UA after training, mostly just pre-hire and if he has been off trk for a while (most companies is 30days) and also after accidents.

Your best bet would be to ask your local Pharmacist. They are very knowledgeable about the effects of cold meds as well as which ones may trigger a false positive.

Thanks guys - he picked up some Dayquil - and it has the same stuff in it as Musinex (the expectorant part) so he is taking just little bits of it... Its hard for us in another way as well, because of our RNY - the absorption is different, so we have to be careful along those lines as well. So needless to say the Wild Turkey is a no go - LOL!

Day-Quil, Ny Quil, Tylenol Cold, store brand cold meds....

    warning....

"non-drowsy formulas" may KEEP HIM AWAKE, when HE NEEDS his sleep....

    so follow the directions......

if hubby (or you) ever need stronger cold meds, like cough syrup with codeine, tell your doctor to prescribe something else.....and ALWAYS have the prescription bottle with you at all times...

and NEVER, EVER, share meds (prescribed ones)....his is his, yours is yours........

there may be a very small amount of alcohol in some meds.....this will dissipate in short time...just like mouth wash will.......

Alcohol in medication - that's one of the places we have to REALLY watch closely - due to our rearrainged insides... that small amount WILL effect us! We had about 6oz of an 'non alcholic' beer and it hit us like a full can of regular beer on an empty stomach - we are REALLY cheap drunks now :biggrin_2556:

As to the dosage he's taking - he it taking half of the directed dose at first to see how it effects him. 1) he is now a 'normal' weight and 2) again the absorption factor.

Just talked to him via cell (THANK GOD for cell phones!!) and he sounds like crap, but he says he is feeling slightly better... either he is saying that because he is - or just to make me feel better :)

LOL - Motrin is an anti-inflammatory - but can be irritating to the 'stomach' - so any of the NSAIDs we can't take any more... or at least if we do take them (for any length of time) we have to take something else with it to protect our stomach/intestinal lining. We get stuck with Tylenol - LOL!

Oh wait - I answered seriously - were you just pulling my leg?? Shoot I do that all the time... :biggrin_25523:
