    Hi all,
I am curious about your experiences with the cheap stock Cobra Mic, model CA 37. Here is a link: http://www.wearecb.com/cobra-ca73-stock-replacement-4-pin-dynamic-microphone.html
I have found it to be unacceptably quiet. I must really project my voice while eating the mic to have an almost audible volume. My Cobra 25 was already aligned to have enough modulation. I ordered an Astatic 363L (noise cancelling) in hopes it is a significant improvement over the stock. Meanwhile, I am using a Cobra HG power mic with its volume set to 2 out of 10. It is much better than the stock, providing plenty of audio level even at the low setting. However, I'd rather stray away from power mics. Is my stock mic a dud or are they all problematic? Thanks for any responses!

If you're stock mic sounds good on my radio then you need a better technician but if it sounds weak on my radio I think you have figured out the problem.

I guess I'll find out when my Astatic comes in the mail.

Hi everyone, thanks for your input. My new Astatic 636L Noise Cancelling mic came in. Here are the results of my mic/radio combos:

Midland 5001z (straight out of box/no work done on it)
    stock mic: Works very well
Cobra's stock mic: Barely any modulation
Cobra HG power mic: Works about the same as the radio's own stock mic
    Astatic: Works very well

Cobra 25 NW ST (recently aligned/modulation increased)
stock mic: Way too quiet; requires receiving radio to have volume quite high
Midland's stock mic: Squeals like a pig, but not really any modulation
Cobra HG power mic: Okay, susceptible to squeal and requires careful adjustment of both gain controls.
Astatic: Works extremely well! More modulation than power mic, and no squeal!

They're all 4 pin mics, but the Cobra 25 is picky. And the Astatic is capable of working on both radios very well.
