I'll be installing a Conbra 75 in my 4-wheeler and wondering if they can be peaked, tuned and amp'ed reliably since the radio itself has such a small case. Not looking to run a linear, just whatever will fit in the factory box or be mounted to it.

I've got one here. The little outboard box is just the entry port to get the RF into and out of the actual radio, the DC input, and an external speaker jack with mounting for it. There isn't much metal in the mic/radio to serve as a heat sink, so any attempt to get more than the stock power out of the thing will result in just overheating badly from the extra current and more rapid destruction of the ppower amplifier stage.
Mine was running at about 80% modulation when I got it, but a few minutes with the service monitor and I was able to get the radio doing about specified levels in TX and RX.
It's got lots of stuff in that little mic/radio head: memory channels, scan, and their useless audio compander circuit.
My recommendation for your four-wheeling is just to put as much antenna on your vehicle and leave the radio stock. If you *really* need more power, my suggestion would be a modest amp, like an RM Italy KL-203P.
Oh, BTW -- the strain relief going into the mic/radio head won't stand up to a whole lot of pulling & tugging. It's definitely not a radio to subject to a whole lot of physical abuse, but if you take decent care of it, it'll work pretty well with what it was designed for.

Thanks for the info! I plan to use a Wilson Trucker 2000 or Firestik on a TruckSpec body side mount.

Don't intend on much physical abuse or gnarly 4 wheeling as it is my commuter, but you never know. Do you think the mic will hold up to a retractable mic reel? The radio will be hidden away when not in use.

In that case, should be OK. Also, you can buy a mic cord extension for that radio that also has a coax extension built in. As for hiding the radio, should be easy: just hide the mic :)

Does the cobra 75 do 4 watts? Is there a modulation pot inside similar to vr4 ? And how do they sound, pretty good.

This rig will do 4 watts easily, but not much more -- and certainly not enough more to hear. There is indeed a modulation adjustment (AMC), and it's VR2. The tune-up procedure calls for setting it to 88% with a specified amount of tone input to the mic audio circuit. When they're aligned correctly, they sound good & clean. Everything in there is so small, though, it's pretty easy for someone tuning "by ear & whistle" to really louse it up.

CB Tricks has pretty comprehensive notes on this radio. I like mine, but then I pretty much always "go by the book" for alignments. HTH,
