I am looking at a new CB. The Cobra LX MAX caught my eye with it's features. Does anyone have one and how well does it perform?

Mike's radio repair did a review on that. He said it was a nightmare to work on. I'm guessing it performs average, but a peak n clip tune won't gain much.
A5¢ Thanks this. -
Yeah I watch the same review and was laughing at his naive comment about resistors and how they can't handle the power.
I can't figure out where these tech get this crap.A5¢ and lovesthedrive Thank this. -
So... we have mixed opinions. I just happened to see it on Cobra's website and was curious. I have an old cobra 29. I had a friend tune it up, turn it up, added a few more channels and put a power Mike on it. Great old radio, but was just doing some checking on the new radios.
I will be putting it in a 387 Peterbilt. I know the factory antennas are crap because the AM/FM antenna is tied in with the CB antenna. I will be getting a new cb antenna. Where I find all different ideas on mounting. A short antenna does not work as well as a long one. Where things get fuzzy, is if I mirror or door mount it, is there any advantage to mounting it on the back of the sleeper? The top of the sleeper is about 12'-6", so not much will be above the sleeper. What would be the best place to mount it? -
Not too many guys have much luck with mounting behind the sleeper. Volvo244t had an interesting idea. I’m not sure which thread it was, but he posted a picture of his antenna mounted on the little mirror chrome mounting plate above the passenger door. Not sure how well it works there, because I dont think he said anything about the antennas performance mounted there.
A5¢ Thanks this. -
That's what get confusing. The antenna is out in the open on the mirror/door mount, but the sleeper mount is only going to be poking up about a foot. I can fabricate an mount to fit just about anywhere. I just need the optimum location.

You could go with the tarheel antenna. I doubt the top hat does much for antenna performance.A5¢ Thanks this. -
You may want to review the cascadia threads. They may give you some ideas that may work on your truck.
A5¢ Thanks this. -
I was told a mirror mount won't work on a 387 Pete. No exposed screws to mount with.
The passenger side top of door location may work, never tried that.A5¢ Thanks this. -
As mentioned earlier, I see that is what the Cascadias are using. I really would like to fabricate something and run the coax through the mirror arm into the cab.
