Lasted about 4 days. On the 5th, the CB burnt up. Smoke was literally coming out the back and the antenna jack was hot. Took it back on home time and got my money back. I'll go get something better later, when money is less of an issue.

ON a side note, this happened while not keyed up. Was just on.

They are very poor quality radios. And 1/2 mile is working ok, wow!

Sounds like you got a smoking hot deal. :biggrin_2559:

I had a 19 Ultra III once. I didn't care much for it. I don't think I really used it enough to find out what the range was on it. I think I replaced it with a Uniden Pro 510XL which i liked a lot better.

But I would think even the Cobra 19 Ultra III would get out past a half mile....unless you had some antenna/coax issues and/or some SWR issues

It,s all about the antenna with the radio. They put out 4 watts and if the radio is used in the car it would be all you need.

Well got a two pronged answer for why. The company guys installed a splitter for the wires to install two things on one connection. Apparently while jostling around while driving, a couple wires that were taped, connected and completed circuit, thereby frying the radio. I discovered this while investigating the supply wires and black tape.

Got po'ed and bought a better radio that included a test for swr. Connected it after resolving my grounded out circuit. Performed the tests and my Antennae failed, but power and broadcast were fine. Replaced antennae, and it passed. Getting something like a 2 on the swr. Not great, but not horrid. Think I get a few miles of broadcast and like 5-10 miles on reception I think.

I like the new radio. Even has Weather alerts scan.
