The Cobra is a fine radio for someone who wants a simple easy to use radio. Any radio is a good radio with a good antenna. Make sure you use a good antenna such as a Wilson or K40. The antenna must be matched to the CB Band but if you go with Wilson or K40 they are pre-matched so you don't have to do anything, just plug the antenna in and your ready to go.

If I were you I'd steer clear of that radio and get you a Cobra 25 LTD. Or a Uniden PC 68XL. Either of those will get out and will allow you to hear better than the Cobra 19 DX IV.
What K2DMG said is sort of true. If you plan to talk on the radio you need to tune it for the lowest SWR across the 40 bands. So it's not necessarily just a "plug n play" thing. There's almost always some tuning with a CB antenna.Last edited: Sep 26, 2009
rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
Wilson and K40 both pre-tune there antennas for the CB Band so what I said was 100% true. The only reason you would have to tune a Wilson or a K40 is if you wanted to take that antenna and use it off the CB Band example 10 Meter Ham or 12 Meter Ham. That guys has no idea what he is talking about.

LOL yeah I agree don't listen to someone who's not only been a CB operator for some time but a radio enthusiast as well. Instead you should listen to some 27 year old truck driver that only knows to key up and talk trash. In fact I also agree with him don't adjust for the lowest SWR so you can make your set up a little more efficient and not have a high SWR/ destroy the finals in the radio....and I also agree use the cheapest radio you can find that has MAYBE 5 watts of modulation...which will surely get you heard over someone with a Cobra 25/Uniden 68 which puts out 10-12 watts of modulation stock out of the box. Notice I said "modulation" and not "dead key" which is the 4 watts. Oh yeah I forgot, they somehow figured out how to put a Cobra 25 board in a Cobra 19 radio....LOLOLOL!
Next he'll tell you to "remove the modulation limiter diode and you'll be the biggest boy on the air. " -
Ok boys I got my popcorn and beer now continue!

if you hate cb radio and the people who use them so much then stay the hell off of the cb forum. Keep your hatred to yourself because i sure as hell do not want to hear or see it and i doubt anyone else cares to see it as well!
i get so frigging sick of this same old shot on every #### trucker or cb site on the net. These guys need to stay the hell on the ham forums where is is expected that every member has a corn cob up their ###! -
LMAO, it is so easy to get you guys going. I am a truck driver, I do own and operate a CB Radio, I don't hate CB'ers I am one and yes I am a ham to. I am not on here bashing anything about CB Radios. They provide a valued function. I am simply saying the 19 is a fine radio for someone starting out that doesn't want a big radio. If you read his post he was new into CB and didn't even no that was an NMO Mount on his truck. I doubt he is looking for a Galaxy 949 all tricked out. Believe it or not that 19 isn't a bad little radio and you can tune it to 15 watts modulation.
Some of you CBers are so quick to jump down a hams throat. There is no reason for it. CBers are happy with limited power over 40 designated frequencies, and hams like to run up to 1500 watts of legal power over hundreds of thousands of frequencies over 15 different band plans. There is nothing wrong with either one, I have nothing bad to say about any CBer except the channel 6 gang who never shut up and never talk a word of English.
Calm down my god. You wonder why people think CBers are nothing but low lifes. When you react over something like that, it make people wonder when in all reality you most likely are good people. Calm down and enjoy the radio for gods sake. -
Well I gotta stand up for Turbo-T here. He simply gave his opinion which was different from yours and then you started in with the name calling in your next post calling him an idiot. Like you said we all like our own thing so grow up and quit name calling just cause someone has a different opinion from yours. It had nothing to do with hams until you brought it up.

before a mod locks this topic lets get back to the original question. the cobra 19 is as basic as you can get with a cb radio. if you dont want the biggest or baddest cb out there then its a great radio. i personally have one
