Hello folks. So I was bobtailing into the Blue Beacon in Barstow, CA a few days ago, on my way home to Vegas after a 2-week stint on the road. It was a helluva trip. I ended up with Covid and am currently laid up in bed here at home. I'm not vaccinated, and I'm kind of glad I didn't because now I'll have natural immunity. But I tell you, I had almost a 102 degree fever in Mountain Home, ID and almost passed out at the Walmart there.

Anyway, as I was engaging the clutch brake, I felt a "pop" and the next thing I know the pedal is on the floor. So no clutch. I was kind of fed up from the trip already so I put the truck in gear and tried to turn it over. My plan was to schlep on to Vegas without a clutch. No dice. I couldn't turn it over and my battery probably died in the process. Just as well. Maybe someone upstairs was telling me NOT to drive to Vegas without a clutch.

So what could be the problem? I don't use the clutch much as I usually float. And when I use the clutch brake, I idle out without using the throttle (both forward and reverse). So my clutch was working great. No slippage, about a 2-inch freeplay, nice and firm...no problem at all. Can it maybe just be a snapped clutch cable? (Hopefully?) Since I'm laid up right now, I'll have to get it looked at next week sometime. But I just wanted some insight from you guys so I can prepare myself. Thanks.

Sounds like the linkage came loose somewhere. What truck?

I have a 2009 Columbia with a Series 60 and an Eaton Fuller 13-speed. It's actually an 18-speed because the splitter works in both high and low ranges. I'm kind of befuddled at the moment concerning this because the tranny plate says it's a RTOC-16909A, which is a 13-speed conversion. And on top of that, the splitter in the "forward" position is the direct drive or downshift position, instead of being the overdrive position. It's a bizarro tranny I tell 'ya.

I had that happen a few years ago. The rubber bushings in the linkage wear out and it slips off causing the pedal to hit the floor. A new one isn't expensive.

Would guess most likely a linkage failure or possibly throw out bearing
The linkage would be pretty easy to fix by yourself. Just need to setup the clutch brake clearance and pedal position correctly. Thow out bearing failure probably will get you a new clutch and likely the finger and cross shaft that operate it
Not hard to replace but the tranny will have to come off
By chance you have a hydraulic clutch and maybe blew a hose

Could have pulled the throwout bearing out of the pressure plate.

I put a big flat washer on one of those and got by for a while. You have to put your eyes on the problem.
