Had my 2014 in the shop for another issue and when they did a 32 point inspection they found a clutch spring in the inspection plate on the transmition. How soon will i have to replace the clutch?

The spring is probably from the disc center and it's about to go. Next time, specify the disc with no springs, severe application, I think it's called. I went through 2 clutches in my Western Star, both times, it was the springs in the disc. I switched to springless, problem solved.

The clutch plate has a dampener hub created by a spring array, that absorbs and dissipates shock loads before they enter the input shaft. The springs can break and so can the sheetmetal that captures them. Some parts will fall out of the pressure plate side but some will be trapped in the flywheel pocket. Enough trash between clutch and flywheel will make it so you cant put the truck in first or reverse without shutting the engine off. The garbage makes a low grade friction coupling even with the pedal down to the floor.

I would replace it with another dampener clutch, the solid puck units might not break the clutch but theyre putting all that shock load in your trans. A clutch is $750 and you can limp it off the road by hot starting in gear. a dropped tooth thru your gearbox is atleast $4 grand for a reman box, plus the wrecker bill to get you off the road when your fuller locks up. A clutch is a better weak link. Trucks are always breaking something, hopefully the odds average out to your advantage.

Meanwhile keep checking for more springs, use creeper to start off, when needed, I ran last one, over a year. It’s a crapshot.

I'd fix it sooner than later. If you found a spring,it's coming apart. This is out of my drag car,but same thing will happen, you'll lose the center.

I second sooner than later. Considering a broken piece of damper spring can get lodged between pressure plate or intermediate plate causing it to be "locked" in gear rendering the the clutch pedal useless unless there transmission is in neutral...my coworker went to start a truck one time with it in gear and clutch pushed in and about drive through garage door due to a Beckett spring

That happened to Me once, had to deliver heavy load on a hill, with a 10 ft drop in front of dock. Very stressful. Drove home 600 miles “ in gear”, to stop, I had to slip into neutral, then into into creeper, as I turned key off. and start it off in gear, and go!! It was a challenge. All 3 clutches I’ve replaced had more springs missing, than left. They always say, never saw one that bad!! Lol.
