Hi.
What do you all think about running a clutch that just makes very little racket when you are engaging it?
I can feel it in the pedal when I let it out and it's not loud or grabby or anything. It's a low humming kind of sound. It's difficult to describe.
Peterbilt is saying possible pilot bearing or broken spring....they don't really know.
Could it go out at a really bad time and should I just deal with it if my money is OK?
I'm getting rid of the tractor in 5-6 months, that's why I ask.
Thank you!

Well if the pieces of spring get wedged in the right spot your clutch won’t disengage.

Grease the throw out bearing and see if it quiets down a little.

Ever saw the damage from a clutch and flywheel that blows up and comes through the bell housing? It not very pretty. I know where 2 trucks sit that this very thing happened to... One is very old and is just a rust bucket now, but pieces of the flywheel and clutch came up through the bell housing AND floorboards. The other is a mid 90s Pete and it has similar damage as the first, but nothing came clear through the floor boards... But it sure dented the floor upward several inches.
If I were you id get it fixed. Just my $0.02DieselDrivinDaddy, Dave_in_AZ and Edjahman Thank this. -

I have seen clutch disc pads wear and allow the clutch hub to scrub on the flywheel bolts. Also if worn to the rivets can do this. Both stop after the clutch fully locks in.
A clutch job on the road broke down can be very costly.Dave_in_AZ, Diesel Dave and Edjahman Thank this.
