My clutch had no free play and was becoming hard to shift into gear while driving and clutch brake was sporadic so…….
I took it to a TA shop TO ADJUST.
now it’s 4 inch free play after they adjust.

they said my clutch linkage is off and it’s it needs adjusting for the clutch brake to work properly but they couldn’t do it(adjust the linkage) they were afraid they might break it or something.

60 or so miles later. Truck is worse than when I brought it to them.

will not go into gears at all from a stop.
Wondering about this linkage and if that 4” free play made it worse.

Could the clutch brake, and just started at the same time.

Of course we are talking about TA though.

They adjusted it too much. Take it back, or to a different T/A. Have them loosen it up till clutch brake engages, and pedal freeplay is between 1.5”-2.0” I doubt the linkage is out of adjustment. If anything it’s worn, If so, it needs to be repaired before it breaks. It’s probably fine. 4”
of freeplay is twice as much needed, clutch brake won’t engage at all. Proper clutch adjustment with 1/2-5/8” gap, should result in 1/4” gap at forks, 1:4” equates into 1.5”-2.0” freeplay. They should know that. If by chance a proper adjustment was done, and linkage really isn’t right. Then you need to find out why. Could be worn linkage parts, or can bushings, motor mounts, or ? Linkage doesn’t just change adjustment, or need adjustment, unless there’s a problem.

    Bean Jr. Thanks this.

Sorry, sounds like time for a clutch,, :crybaby:, not the end of the world, but a broken spring in the disc, it will never adjust right.

4" of free play and the pedal will hit tge floor before the TO Bearing hits the clutch brake.

Adjust the clutch to 1/2"-9/16" from clutch brake to TO bearing, then adjust linkage to get the 2" or so of freeplay.

pup, Bean Jr. and Rideandrepair Thank this.
