My refugee friend, he does not know English well enough to pass knowledge and two other tests in English (he is just learning - few months here) for CLP and in DMV they telling he can't do it in other languages than English and Spanish. Is that true?

Is there way to go other state and get CLP there, I know GA offers many languages for tests, then continue in Florida with rest?

Learn the language first then your friend can pass. May actually be useful to read signs and stuff

FMCSA regulations Section 391.11 (b) (2): Can read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records

This is federal and would apply in every state. This is for the CDL...you may be able to get CLP in some states without qualification under this section, but I could not tell you which ones. My opinion: best way, learn the language, then work on the CLP and CDL.

    • Spanish: "¿Quieres patatas fritas con eso?"
    • French: "Voulez-vous des frites avec ça ?"
    • German: "Möchten Sie Pommes frites dazu?"
    • Italian: "Vuoi le patatine fritte con questo?"
    • Portuguese: "Quer batatas fritas com isso?"
    • Japanese: "フライドポテトはいかがですか?" (Furaido poteto wa ikaga desu ka?)
    • Chinese (Mandarin): "你要薯条吗?" (Nǐ yào shǔ tiáo ma?)
    • Korean: "감자튀김 추가하시겠어요?" (Gamja ttwigim chugahasigeosseo yo?)
Translation: "would you like fries with that?".....simple to learn and nobody gets hurt if you screw it up

The road signs are written in English, not one of the 809 languages people in other countries speak. I hope there is no way to get around the requirement to speak English, but there probably is.
