I did a search and couldn't find any thing about cleaning, although I know it's somewhere in TTR!

Specifically, I'd like to find a good product/method to clean my black rubber steering wheel (2014 KW 660, if it matters). I've tried wet wipes, Simple Green, Green Works, Clorox All Purpose, and rubbing alcohol. No matter how many passes I make, the cloth always comes away dirty. I've been trying to get it clean for a week! Am I taking the black coloring off?? Do I need to just cover it and move on with life?

    Thanks.

as reverse logic as this may read,i too have attempted to clean steering wheels w/various and numerous cleaners, yet the cloth always seems to have dirt or other on it.I have concluded that I have been taking the black rubber off w/each cleaning.I now just use window cleaner and wipe it down.

ocd my man. i recognize.no need to cover but do move on-

I used Mr Clean. Keep it wet and rub and rub the crud will come off there. The more you clean the less it builds up. Hint hint! :)

No, the wheel is good about pulling the diesel and oil off your hands.

Like street beater said, I have clean hands! I wash them religiously and always use gloves when dealing with the outside of the truck.

Maybe I should get some driving gloves... hmmmm

You are taking the coating away on the rubber using all of those cleaners. Just use a plain mild soap and water, Dawn may be ok to use but you don't want to dry the coating out or pull it using a degreaser. There is really no good way to clean them and the coating rubs off after a time then so if it gets humid, the rubber breaks down a bit and you have a mess. When I have them on a truck, I put a cover on them - preferably leather.

I got the same truck as you minus that ugly green LOL. Just kidding, but seriously i use armor-all wipes for all the surfaces/controls in the front of my cab and i can get my steering wheel squeaky clean with 1 wipe everytime.

It's time for a new steering wheel. The original finish is gone. That's the rubber or whatever coming off on your hands. Next best thing is rubbing alcohol on a shop towel. Rub it well. Daily. This will help with the stuff coming off on your hands.

My 386 Pete was like that till I finally put on a new wheel.

You sure it is real rubber? If so use tire care products. If synthetic compound good luck. Ask KW what they recommend.

I love Wheelskins lambskin wheel cover. Use leather care products. I have the same problem with my wheelskin cover tho, never can pass the white glove test no matter how many times you clean it. I just wipe it a few times and rub in some boot cream. Keeps it soft.
