A friend of mine had this problem and he said that he got some additive to put in the tanks, he couldn't remember what it was and either got it at a truck stop or a truck shop, but he also said to take plenty of fuel filters with you as he changed five in ten days, results may vary.

I plan to shove in plenty of additive with diesel once I get the tank clean, it is empty now looking for a method to wash out rest of the sludge before i fill it. I think a pressure washer will just smear it all over that's about it.

I do believe the additive was specifically for algae from bio diesel.

I had the orange type in my chipper and and removed the tank and flushed it myself with alcohol, which didn't work so i went to a boat fuel tank builder and they flushed it and it never came back.
the other type i have heard of was black but cannot remember what it was called.gafred99 and Shock Therapy Thank this. -
I just googled 'diesel fuel tank cleaning' in your area and got several hits of companies that come to your location to clean tanks. This is a fairly standard service for stationary engines and large boats.

I just went through this with my C7 ACERT, I used Hammonds Biobor JF Diesel Fuel Treatment (I get it from Amazon), put it in the tank before I cleaned it, started the truck and ran it for a few minutes, wanted to clean the lines also. Let it sit for 3 days, drained fuel from tank, and all the sludge and dead crap with it. I had the tank steam cleaned, but you have to remove it, they need to get the wand inside. Change the filters, and keep a fresh set handy, The stuff will clean out the lines, and it will plug the filters, depending on how bad it is. I had to change the filters on mine twice. I now use the stuff every few months to make sure I don't have the problem again.

I used the power service biocides. When I got the disease I put about a shot full in every fill up which is about 150 gallons. Took about about 3 months and 15 davco filters. I had it real bad. Now I haven't changed my davco in almost 20000 miles! Lol
