Hello everyone. While I was serving in Iraq, I noticed a lot of civilian contracter truckers. Has anyone done/do/know anything about this and how hard it is to get employment? Thank you.

That was mainly KBR/Halliburton. Doubt they are even there anymore.

All the ones I met are KBR. Go to KBR's website, and look for their overseas driving jobs. Their jobs in Iraq are closed, but they still should have openings in Kuwait and Saudi.

Horizon was another one, but I think most of their drivers were either Bosnian or Pakistani. One of them managed to wreck my FLA when he lost control of his truck, too.
I applied with KBR in towards the end of 2006. They called me in August of 2007. By that point, I'd bought two trucks and end dump trailers, was a bit vested in that, and didn't have anyone to run things and turn wrenches for me while I was gone. I talked to the recruiter, listened in to the conference call, and decided I was much too committed to other things to follow up.
IIRC, they were requiring three years of verifiable experience, and a clean MVR (naturally).

If you are lucky you might find a job in Afghanistan. Even if they offered me $500K I would not go to Iraq.

Depends on what you are hauling and what kind of protection it offers. If I would roll out with KBR, it would be on the condition that it is funded by a private company and NOT by tax dollars. They are part of the reason why the bloody war cost us so much. Just my opinion. Btw, no way in hell I would pull a fuel tanker.

I drove out of Camp LSA Anaconda (Ballad, Iraq) in 2004-05 for KBR. As of I know they are not hiring in Iraq as the U.S. Military is or has completely drawn out of the country. The same will be the same for Afganistian too. I drove fuel tanker and loved it. The attacks on convoys were nearly non-existant for U.S. convoys (military protected). A few times the non-military convoys were attacked but that wasn't that often either...think I can remember 3 times in a year they were attacked.

talked to a trucker who was stationed in iraq

he gave me the skinny on what was happening there and said that if he was questioned if he told me, he would have to deny it

they make you sign all sorts of agreements not to let the american people know whats going on over there

he said he would never do it again
