I had to look up what a chopped steak is.

Apparently it's dog food. You guys eat that stuff?

Many sources, very little agreement on this issue. May I present what I found?....

Steak haché is a promoted French hamburger. A ribeye, (or a top round/ strip loin steak, with less than 20% added beef fat) is chopped and formed, grilled med rare to medium, served with sauce on plate under the meat. No bun, usually served with a side of potatoes and/or salad.

Wiki says Hamburg(er) steak and Salisbury steak are basically the same dish. Google either one and you'll find many different sauces, and many different chefs having arguments about which dish is what. Both sides claim the brown mushroom and onion gravy as the "correct" sauce.

USDA Standards of Identity say that Hamburg steak can only be made from beef. And only skeletal beef, no organ meats. No more than 20% fat.

Salisbury steak must be at least 65 % meat, 25% of which can be pork. Beef heart is allowed to be used, but no other organ meats. No more than 30% fat. Cereal or protein fillers/extenders limited to 12%. Packaged product must be fully cooked, or else labeled "Patties for Salisbury steak".

I just remember both dishes from military service. They were both composed of nondescript meat in a very salty brown onion gravy....

There's a place on 41 at the Holy Hill Rd (Wi167) exit. It's the exit before the 41/45 split. At the exxon fuel stop called Truckers & Travelers Restuarant. Really good food.

Plainview Truck Stop Hwy 41 exit South of Oshkosh. I know also a few years ago the Pine Cone T/S in Johnsons Creek, WI I-94 exit 267 use to have a really good chopped steak with grilled onions, and a big portion. There breakfast was huge, and filling also.
