    Hello hard working people,
    I am about buying drive tires and still wondering what brand to choose!What do you guys think?Mechelin ...Yokohama...BF goodfirch...bridgestone...Continental?Currently still using my michelin XDN2 open shoulder ut they are very pricy.I am willing to spend no more than $3500 for all 8 tires
    So what do u guys think ...and open shoulder or closed shoulder?
    Thank you

    Why are you looking at the price of the tires and not factoring in how long they will last or the anticipated possible headaches that will come with them? You can buy 8 cheap chinese tires for half the price of 8 michelin tires, but you will be lucky if half of them last half as long as the michelins do ... Try looking at it as a cost per mile instead ...

    I run Continental HD3 closed shoulder drives. But, these tire are over your initial cost limit.Your best bet to stay under that price and still get some quality is a Goodyear Uni-circle retread.

    The cheap Chinese tire thing is a myth. Double Coin is a Chinese Tire, they're offered now as OEM tires. They also partnered with Michelin for passenger and light truck tires, Michelin thought well enough of them to have a joint venture. I've run Good Year, Samson, Firestones, BF Goodrich, & Bridgestone drive tires. I thought the ones that wore the worst was the Bridgestone M726EL, very uneven wear that no-one could explain. The rest of them all wore pretty even and never had a blow out with virgins.

    Better fuel mileage and even wear with closed shoulder. Better offroad traction with open shoulder.I've been in 6inches of mud at a well site in ND with closed shoulder tires, had to engage the interlock but didn't get stuck. So I would say you only need open shoulder if you are doing sonething that has you in some extremely muddy conditions. Even then you could just chainup for the mud.

    I'm running Goodyear G572 Unicircle recaps right now and very pleased with the fuel economy from this tread pattern. When the caps are worn out i'm getting a set of virgin G572's. With tires you get what you pay for. Closed shoulder is best for most otr highway applications. Can't go wrong with Goodyears imo.

    I had original 8x Bridgestone (11.r22.5} on my Volvo, they lasted around 400k, after I used 2 sets of BFs, soo I'm at 3rd set of drives including the originals, 1,310,000 miles; both 2 sets of BFs are lasting longer than Bridgestone's.; and maybe in 30k miles i'll buy BFs again; I had absolutely no problems with this tire, just watching the pressure, this BFs 444 were actually ex Michelin design tires; I bought both sets at Love's TS in Mathew,Mo ( lower sale taxe in Mo) for about 3200$ installed with trades;
