Start my new job Monday night team driving Fed Ex pups from South Holland IL to Salt Lake City Utah.
Curious as to how this stretch of I80 is - I hear Nebraska is flat, but going around Denver and into Salt Lake City just curious as to if there are any grades I should know about or the run in general ?
Seems like a good job, .46cpm driven - two round trips in 4 days, 5600 miles - 2800 each. I dont think over 1200 bucks is a bad payday for 4 days.
Any information on this run would be appreciated !
Chicago to Salt Lake City - I80, how is the run ?

It does sound good....... but 5600 miles in 4 days??? Am I reading this wrong or are you running as part of a team operation? -
Even if it's team that's 700 miles per driver, per day..... through mountainous terrain in CO. You sure you got your info right? 4.5 days maybe but I'm thinking 4 days may require some fudging with the comic book.

Wow ... 7th and 8th words, TEAM DRIVING
U should be fine. Have you ever driven doubles? If not, take lane changes easy, the last trailer has a tendency to whip. Dont perpetuate the wiggle when you are driving by constantly correcting, go with the flow to a point. Winter time can be interesting ... please try to avoid the tendencies of most fedex drivers and drive a sane speed for road conditions and be curteous. I know you are on a tight schedule where minutes count ... but so do lives. -
Oh, and buy a pair of earplugs if you have not team driven before. The few times I've had to help a team operation ... ear plugs were the only way I could sleep.

You shouldn't be seeing anything to do with Denver...I-80 all the way...there are 3 decent climbs through Wyoming, then the final decent into SLC (Parley's Summit)...just watch your downhill speed going down Parley's, and the "S" turns as you enter the SLC Valley....easy run but winter can be a ####### especially Iowa and the winds....scratch that...the winds and blowing snow all the way actually! -
BigJohn54 Thanks this.

I thought Parley's Summit was on the other side of Salt Lake City going towards California?
Thats some good advice on the ear plugs - I have been driving solo in a 53" dry van for the past 3 months so am not accustomed to sleeping while the truck is moving, I will definately be picking some up today.
I dont think I will be playing with the logs at all actually, its a 21.5 hour run to Salt Lake City - and we have 24 hours to do it. We leave the Chicago area at night to avoid traffic, and will be arriving in SLC at night also. Doesnt leave a lot of time for fuel/bathroom breaks now does it ?Maybe a portable toilet would be more appropriate ?
No, I have never driven a set of pups before - I definately plan on taking my time when changing lanes for sure ! -

best of luck to yougroundpounder Thanks this.
