So father and son with 25 years combined experience go work for this bogus outfit then get screwed but, between the two of them cannot come up with the cash to get from Chicago to Jacksonville??? This isn't the first time they've worked for this guy either... The whole thing just seems stupid, I guess ya can't fix it... SMH unreal

Illinois trucking company’s sudden shutdown leaves team drivers stranded, unpaid

WTH were they thinking, being in the Chicago area they could’ve had another 1099 job the same day and maybe even landed them a white Volvo ;)

I am starting to stop feeling sorry for anyone who is a 1099 driver without the proper contract. I also am getting more pissed at these owners who make it hard for the rest of all of us.

I feel the same way with anyone cheating to run a business. It doesn't pay to play fair I guess but I guess that is life.

They could afford a 3 day stay in a hotel plus meals, but they couldn't afford bus tickets or a rental car?

Also, a 1099 team should be making a lot more than $3000 every two weeks.

Explain how a "contract" would have helped at all in this case.

It would not have helped outside collecting back wages, because the drivers were not too bright.

However, 1099 is an independent contractor position
You can't be a contractor in this industry without a contract to define what the driver's responsibility is and what the other party responsibility is.

It is almost the same as a lease operator, you have to have a contract with the carrier.

This has been decided in court and has been codified in many states.

    Yep

If you hired a contractor to come do some work at your business or home , you’d have a contract clearly defining the scope of work etc .
