WTH were they thinking, being in the Chicago area they could’ve had another 1099 job the same day and maybe even landed them a white Volvo

I am starting to stop feeling sorry for anyone who is a 1099 driver without the proper contract. I also am getting more pissed at these owners who make it hard for the rest of all of us.

They could afford a 3 day stay in a hotel plus meals, but they couldn't afford bus tickets or a rental car?
Also, a 1099 team should be making a lot more than $3000 every two weeks.Another Canadian driver, Oxbow, ducnut and 4 others Thank this. -

However, 1099 is an independent contractor position
You can't be a contractor in this industry without a contract to define what the driver's responsibility is and what the other party responsibility is.
It is almost the same as a lease operator, you have to have a contract with the carrier.
This has been decided in court and has been codified in many states.Another Canadian driver, cke, tscottme and 3 others Thank this. -
If you hired a contractor to come do some work at your business or home , you’d have a contract clearly defining the scope of work etc .Another Canadian driver, cke and Numb Thank this.
