I am going to run through the tests here also . Never hurts to study more .

Well I took one test and got 2 wrong . When making left hand turn always .. . Vague question . I answered wait till a gap in traffic then accelerate . I guess your supposed to just shoot on into the middle of the intersection and turn . I think I will wait for a gap in the traffic instead .
    1. Useless question ... No one driving needs to know what the law is called that is used against you if you refuse to take a alcohol test . All you need to know is that you have to take it or else . I got this right but it is useless info and should not be on a test .

Got some other question wrong but forgot what it was .

Open book is a matter of opinion I guess. Some people just are not good at recalling info they read especially when nervous about passing a very important test . Does not mean they do not know the answers . they should at the very least inform you of what answers you got wrong so you can study up on that section instead of going over all the things you got right again . That would be useful .
but anyway let us just look at this as another study aid and see if we can improve upon it .

Open book is NOT a matter of opinion, it means you can have a manual or book open in front of you when you take a test to look up the answers.

CDL tests are not open book, you need to know the information by heart.

I'm guessing that the correct answer to the first one is "use the left most turn lane". This is not a vague question at all. Its something every driver knows.

The law is called "implied consent". It means that by accepting a license you have implied that you give your consent to waive your right not to blow into a breathalyzer.

Did these off the top of my head. You should, too.

What is the problem with reading the cheat sheets while you are driving into a school zone and attempting to make a right hand turn onto a two lane road with a Nun in the crosswalk, snow on the ground and the light just turned yellow?

    :dontknow::smt017:dontknow:

IMO if you CRS then you do not need to be in a truck. We have too much to remember to have to look out for some other driver that can't remember basic rules of thumb about stopping and following distances.

90+ Percent of the general knowledge questions are common since. If you have some basic knowledge and common since. All you need to do is read the book one time and you will pass with a 90+ on the test.
    It is not rocket science.
Air brake, Combination tests are pretty much the same. Read the book once or twice. Look at a truck and learn the basic parts to those systems and you will pass. If you don't, then maybe you don't have enough common since to be driving a truck.

I answered the alcohol question properly , I just think it should not be on a test since it has nothing to do with driving . [ The name of the law is not important . ] is my point .

Now the other one you also got wrong . ... Not sure of exact wording but this is close ..
    1. go to middle of intersection and turn
    2. use the left most turn lane
    3. do not remember but was obviously wrong
4 . wait for a small qap in traffic and turn

since no mention in{ question } of how many turn lanes I went with the only answer that sounded safe . although small gap does not quite fit the bill .

The proper answer was ( pull into middle of intersection and turn ) ??? not me . I am not positive but I think that may be illegal . Supposed to wait behind the stop line until traffic allows you to turn .

I think the question is worded wrong .

Also in my opinion and experience turning from the inside left turn lane results in you having to go into the right lane which is bad as cars are going passed you there, and trying to miss the median or left turn lane of the cross traffic. I use the outer lane . Far more room to turn without risking hitting a car . I actually think that is the rule . works for me anyway.

here is a good one about that cargo check . In driving school I was told not to answer the question properly because the rule had been changed and Kansas had not yet updated the test . my cdl manual updated version 2014 says 3 hours 50 miles . This forum lists 25 miles in answers and gives correct answer as all of the above I think . that would be incorrect answer . other answers were correct ...i.e. at every break and after 3 hours driving .

after taking about 6 tests on this forum I think they are as a whole pretty good practice .

Now to people who do not like the cheat sheet ... no one ever said anything about reading it while driving in a school zone . It should only be read while driving in rush hour traffic with a full load in a big city with at least 5 lanes to swerve in to . :biggrin_2556:

seriously it needs to be updated by you seasoned drivers for use as a study guide of quick answers to questions you know will be on the test !
Unless you think that simply reading the manual one time is enough . In that case why do you think they have all these practice tests online ?

just as a note I am lousy on tests . Yet I am 55 years old and can count the moving violations I have had on one hand and two of them were for speeding in a pickup with no speedometer that I drove for 20 years like that. On top of that the first time I ever drove a car I drove from phoenix to La . Right through LA during rush hour to the beach and then back to phoenix . Then I drove the same station wagon to Florida . No DL never drove before these times , no driver ed. No ticket no getting pulled over . Nata . But I bet my last dime i could not in any way have passed a written test.

Now as far as this open book thing goes I was going off the word of one of our other drivers who said the neighboring county would allow open book . So we have a few things to consider ..
I could not find anything to say he was wrong .Just closed book on permit and endorsement test . So this is what is left
    1. Maybe he is wrong
    2. maybe there is no law saying you can not use book
    3. maybe the county dl office people just overlook it .

I do not know . So what I am going to do is call the office and ask if it is open book or not to see what they say.
