So I'm thinkin' about getting my own truck and switching to the O/O L/O side of my company.

what's up with these 2012-2014 prostars, between 300 and 400 thousand miles, going for between 18,000 and 40,000 dollars?

Is it a shotty truck? The volovos all cost twice that! not to mention the kenworth's or Western Stars...

a lotta new jersey, pennsyltucky sellers have 'em cheap. reminds me of the mustang convertibles for sale out in the bronx and brooklyn/queens for 3k under market value... makes me wonder what the "catch" is?

my company, roehl would have me pay 600 a week for an international prostar from 2016 w/ maybe 250-300k miles... so why not add another 100k miles, go three years older, and cut that payment in half by bringing my own truck? (they allow it).

well to be fair i own two cars. a 1997 town car and a 1996 mustang, both had for under 2500 dollars, with over 150k miles, fun to drive and dirt cheap to maintain. so yeah... when you say beater...

Buddy of mine bought a 2012 prostar maxxforce powered ...ex hill bros truck for 12k and pretty nice truck .
Ran it trouble free for 2 years and at trade in time he got offered 5 k for it by a scrapyard ...kenworth wouldn't even take it on trade .

Run away, very far and very fast!

If you've got $40,000 to spend on a truck, they're are plenty of elog-exempt 1990's large cars looking for a good home.

the problem is i don't got 40 grand. i got excellent credit however.

I don't mind the eld. I'm young enough that faxes to me are ridiculously old school, and I give folks crap whenever they try to tell me to fax them something, "but what's a fax? is that like what old folks use?!?".

let's say I wanna borrow 40k, run loads, make some money and not worry all the time about maintenance, I don't wanna sweat my bazalls off in the summer either bcuz of garbaggio climate control.... what're my options? is old "bad" with a truck? or are those five-bazillion-mile volovos and kennyworth's like my trusty old town car; aka old yet faithful?

Problem with those is that they are a crapshoot as to when they break down.
@Heavyd is our resident International guru.
There are a lot off threads in which he posted about the problems and solutions for those maxxforce engines.
    Read them.

That really isn’t bad. I would be happy if my truck lost only $3500 a year in value.

International trucks themselves aren’t horrible but the max force is junk. I have owned four internationals and even my dealer tells me to avoid the max force.

It all depends on your personal definition of nice but you can certainly find a truck that can make you money and won’t be junk in the 30k range. Much less than that get ready for some repairs and headaches and stepping up to 40-50k will get you a much nicer truck.

How much do you have? I am firmly against borrowing money for a truck. Tons of people do it but it increases your chance of failure exponentially. If I were in your shoes I would keep doing what you are doing and save up and pay cash for your truck. Then you can own it and it won’t own you.
