Hey guys, I'm about to get a different visor for my old 377 as the old one tried to fly away last weekend.
Question about attaching the new one, is it common to drill out the old huck bolts and go back together with something different or should i try to borrow a tool to reinstall them? How hard are the old one to get out? And last on the sides of the cab where the visor was bolted on the rear bolt was broken on both sides. What's the best advise to get these little suckers out, both broke couple threads deep into threads. Would take a pretty small left handed but and a steady hand is all I can think of
Thx

I put my new one on with stainless bolts with lock nuts. The ones with nylon on one side. If I had access to a huck bolt tool I would have used that. It is a pain in the rear getting in behind them over the windshield. Took about three to four hours for me to do it by myself. Also was the first one I had done.

I have done 4 or 5 of these on Pete's and Kenworth's. I do not have a huck bolt tool, so here is how I do it. You can go to a tool store like Fastenal. They will sell you an insert that looks kind of like a molly bolt. You will need to buy a little tool with the inserts. After you drill, put your insert in, install the bolt while holding the fastener with the little tool, and you have your insert. The tool cost like 95 cents, and the inserts were like a buck or two each. Only thing that was even a little expensive were the stainless steel bolts I wanted to use. These things work great, I think they hold every bit as good as a huck bolt. You may or may not need to remove the broken bolts. Depends if you need those holes for the new visor mounting bracket.
Only way to get the broken bolts out is to drill and easy out them. If you do have to remove them I am using a new product made by CRC called Freeze Of. Spray liberally and let it sit for about 5 minutes before you drill. This stuff beats anything else I have ever used. Has made taking exhaust and steering component parts almost trouble free. -
Wow thanks man, sounds like the way to go
