I'm looking for a place to store my chains and binders without adding a headache rack. Anyone have any ideas? Im thinking maybe something like this mounted under the trailer. [IMG][IMG]

A box would be a huge PITA to keep them sorted out and being able to use. A hanging rack is the only way to go.

Keen trucking uses a top opening box for chains and binders. You might try calling the Carlisle shop to see if they'll sell you one.

I use a Merrit box that fits between frame rails on the tractor and works as a cat walk as well. It fits 12 chains and binders.

Is that your trailer with the rack on the bulkhead? What is wrong with that? I'd use that over a side box anyday, plus, they are already on your trailer. Easier to lay out and put away, imo

A side box is great for binders (I have all of mine in my 18x24x24 step-box)

As for the chain rack, mounting it UNDER the trailer as you said would be a HUGE mistake. The chains will rust and you will easily loose them, and binders would last maybe a week in that spot as well.

Just wondering, why do you not want a headache rack??? I know a lot of guys with the big streched out trucks don't run them and most have rear windows, but I'd prefer the convience of the enclosed rack and the extra safety it provides just incase some yahoo pulls out in front of you and you have to slam the brakes.

No that not my trailer its a stock photo of the chain hanger. Im wanting to install that hanger inside the box and hang it under the cab not under the trailer. All the trailers Im pulling have bulkheads on them. Since we change trailers out all the time Im looking for something else.

I think everyone missed the point that you wanted that chain hanger inside of your tool box!

You could just buy a plain jane tool box and have someone weld a piece of angle iron inside of it to hook your chains and binders to.

I did miss that. so yuo are wanting to put it down around by where the tarp box usually goes? As long as the box has a good rubber seal and water doesnt get in easily to rust the chains, I can see that working...

Don't forget you can drill a drain hole in each corner of a box.

    SHC Thanks this.
