Why do brokers need their name(s) as a certificate holder on your Proof of Insurance?
Can you have multiple names on your Proof of Insurance certificate?

You'll get a different cert for every broker. Usually they don't just want to be listed as the cert holder usually they want added as an additional insured so if there's a damage claim they get paid. I ain't figured it out yet but it's beyond me additional insured I get cert holder who knows.

Certificate Holder. This term means exactly that. The person/company/entity listed as a Certificate Holder is just a holder of the certificate. IF you cancel or the Insurance company cancels your insurance. ALL holders are notified.
The person requesting the certificate is assured as of the time of the request, you have insurance.
You could otherwise be sending them a bogus certificate. Either expired coverage or just a fake certificate.

Additionally insured means the Holder is also insured under your policy. Not sure what kind of liability it covers.

Certificate holder: The reason they want to be listed as a certificate holder is because all certificate holders get notified when there is a change to your insurance policy; whether it is cancelled insurance or a change in your policy (i.e. reduced cargo amount). This allows them to detect any carriers whose insurance is no longer active, and thus requiring the carrier to give an updated insurance certificate before booking their next load with them.

Additional Insured: As a carrier, you typically don't want to make a broker additionally insured since this will often increase your premium. This allows the broker to have your insurance coverage and the rights to your defense; meaning if you or the broker are sued for liability of an issue that may occur on a load you are hauling for the broker, the broker will be able to utilize your insurance since they are an additional insured.

    Hope that helps!
