I wasn't arguing what u said, but I couldn't understand how they offered such benefits if they paid on a 1099.
There was a person who posted on here a few years ago, who'd worked for CT. His whole thread was dedicated to his time there, and it wasn't pretty. And after seeing their junk flying down the road, no way I'd willingly go there.

i could only relate to what i had experienced with, back in the day
yeah, the equipment was junk back then as well....!!!
as i recall, there was some sort of form to fill out for the benefits, and i would have imagined, that you self pay into it, but i cannot recall, if the pricing was discounted (since perhaps many buy it from the same employer, or if it was full price) the mere fact that it was a 1099 company (and i had worked 1099 in my past) i took off like my pants were on fire...
i think what someone else said is true too, if you get denied a job at some other places, and CT is hiring, and you need the money, they know this and use you to thier advantage.
companies like that need to be removed from the work pool.rbrtwbstr Thanks this. -
1099 work was very common in the 80's. Everyone was using it for everything, esp. smaller companies with a few employees trying to stay afloat and not deal with workman's comp etc.
Given what I've read about CT it doesn't surprise me that they'd misuse it like that. They likely would still do it today if they could.USMC 3531 Thanks this. -

I asked my friend and no they don’t do 1099.

i can only recall what i was told back in the day. -
They were 1099 around 2003 or so than changed. When I used to peddle freight back then a central driver was explaining it to me. I have a few friends that work there now. They make good money but the benefits stink. No direct deposit and your always 2 weeks behind on your pay. That means you work 3 weeks before you get your first check. They always get 13-14 hours a day between driving and dock work though.

buddyd157 is correct, Central Transport had a business model similar to Watkins Freight Lines if any of you remember them back in the day ,a mixed batch of owner operators/contractors and company employees and equipment, I only know this because when Central Transport opened up shop in Reno back in 2004 or 2005 I think ,I went and checked it out, they only wanted contractors with their own trucks at the time and as the terminal grew the contractors could put on more trucks and hire employees on 1099 (alot like RPS/Fed Ex Ground model also) ,and I remember the Cherokee insurance being mentioned, however I believe that they have changed their business model and now own all their equipment and all employees are W2.
buddyd157 Thanks this. -
that was in the days before the CDL and a new hire applicant had to take the DOT 66 questions, open book test. you could not possibly fail...lol
bottom line..??
there are better companies, better benefits, better pay...USMC 3531 Thanks this.
