How much time do you get at home, my husband is about to start the training and at some point I hope to attend the training school and drive team with him. but for now I have to stay behind and hold down my job. This will be a big adjustment for me and just curious how much I may possible get to see him, he is really excited and i am totally supportive of this change. But until I start the school or at least be a passagner does anyone know the home times. We are in Texas off I-20 or I-30.

home time is 1 day off per week out with a max of 4 days off. they really like for you to stay out a month at a time. you can stay out less but your gonna go broke doing that. there is a lot of freight going in the dallas ft worth area and going out also. my suggestion is to get on the kraft dedicated fleet as soon as he can there is a ton of kraft foodsd that run in and out of there. so he could possiably sneek in a 10 hr break at home some times.

I would say for Sam to check out Kraft also. They run TONs of freight in Indiana. If he is near 70, 80, or US 30, He could be thru the house quite a bit.
Have to wait 6 months normally to get on the fleet. And you can NEVER have a late delivery. But they run good miles.

    Sam Hell Thanks this.

Thanks for all the replies! Is reefer better than dry as far as pay goes (more miles)?

I prefer dry. Simply due to the fact that I haul mostly non-food items. So I so not have to spend allot of time at grocery warehouses.
I also like drop and hook. So I have more time and available to actually work every day than I did pulling reefer.
Most large reefer company's are training company's. I believe there is a reason for that. I do not put up with slow receivers like I use to. So I will stay dry.
In many cases however reefer company's will pay slightly more than dry van company's. And reefer company's do tend to have a longer average length of haul. So it can be a good place to learn.
I get paid more per mile than any reefer company that I know of. But I am also running short haul and regional. I could make 4 Cpm more for my company if I did OTR. But I like my weekends home.
Once I was on the Kraft fleet at Central I was bumped up to 40 cpm, I got a 3200 mile per week dedicated route, and I made more money per week than I do now. But I was still only taking 1 weekend off per month. I was at the house 1 night every weekend for a break though. You can make good money at Central on the right fleet, and with the right dispatcher, as a company driver. my net on my dedicated run was over 1000 per week.
