I have a question about Dry bulk trailers: can a trailer that hauls cement be used for other products? (Obviously not food!) How is cement cleaned out of the tank and pipes?

Apart from size, how specialized are dry bulk tankers? Can you build versatile tankers or are they fairly specialized to a small family of products?

Yes they can. Trailers can be washed out. Many different products are hauled in pneumatic tanks.

They can, ours were never. Just blown dry. Dedicated trailer for Mortar, Cement etc.

But.. for practical reasons I suppose if you loaded plastic pellets into a Cement tanker without completely washing it out, you are going to have issues when you try to unload it.

With that said, if you had a brand new tanker and have a place to clean it, you can haul anything that will accept air unloading under pressure. But you really don't wanna.

Ours haul a variety of stuff that goes into concrete all in the same tank and we don't wash them out between different products, ie cement (all types), flyash, slag. The only dedicated trailers we have are white cement trailers.

Flyash, cement etc is not a problem it's still concrete in the end.

now Mortar went in a seperate trailer.

When I was talking about wash out Im saying only if the product is totally different such as plastic pellets.

FYI Ive been in tanker work for years in the concrete industry and we never ever washed out anything.
