Hey everyone, I have a question about a company rule that was put to us this past week. The company pays us a certain amount of money for the use of our cell phone for company use our phones belong to us personality. A blocker was placed in our windshield to block any calls coming in while the truck is moving. Here is the interesting part they took my personal phone and downloaded an app so that it would communicate with the blocker and i did not sign any type of waiver giving them permission to do so. Is this type of stuff legal in today's world?

which is why in all my years...MY PHONE...IS MY PHONE...

if you wanna get in touch with me..??.........GIVE ME A PHONE, and a charger.

can't say if in your particular situation, they can block you from making any calls or receiving them from family.

once YOU ACCEPTED thier payment proposal, you ACCEPTED what they did to your phone...

    in essence..."a verbal agreement"

If you need an app on your phone to remain employed. You need to think about your job choices.

Our company offers apps. They recommend certain apps. Yet their IT department can’t/won’t state what permissions or access is granted upon install.

So I don’t install them. Period.

Big brother has arrived in full now.

When you surrendered your phone to your company, that was the implicit permission to install the app. Of course you can always remove it, but that might be a firing offence. (Tampering with a safety device)

Me, I would have never allowed it and walked out if they insisted on it. Maybe even contacting the labor bord to see how legal it is.

You need to pose this question to the FCC. Cell phone blockers/ signal jammers are illegal. Maybe they found a loophole by going thru an app, maybe not. Ask the Feds.

Cell phone blockers are not illegal per se. What is illegal is pushing out frequencies that interfere with regulated frequencies.
What it sounds like this app does is detect truck movement, sends a signal (likely Bluetooth) to the cell phone to disable it. Basically it turns on airplane mode automatically.

So not a cellular blocker as much as an automatic switch to turn the phone off.

Depends on what you agreed to allow.
Does this app block all communication or just everything except company contact?

I would get a different phone, what if an emergency happens.

Its not illegal to use a phone, hands free.
