My husband hates his job and is looking into getting a CDL. We have 6 kids so going to Lone Star is not an option due to cost and amount of time it takes to train. Any recommendations for companies that will pay to train and get CDL? He has driven big moving trucks but never the really big ones. I would like it if he could stay as close to home as possible, once he gets his license, as I work full-time too. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

First thing you have to understand is that no company trains for free. You pay for the training with lower wages. Also bonuses are just another way to pay you lower then they should.
The best training company in my view is Pam. However, they are so cheap and only pay .28 per mile, that I can't recommend them to anyone. They want you to sign on for a year. So for a year you are working for 17 cpm below what I think a driver should be paid his first year. At 130000 miles per year that means you are paying $22,100 for training.
If you do not have savings to let you go to private training you will in the long run pay more.
If you are going to train with a company, any of the big companies will do. They are all about the same.ummsantos Thanks this. -
