The Practice tests contained within this webpage are a very good guide, but how accurate are the questions when going to the DPS for a permit, I have it all down now but am wondering if the same questions will be asked In the DPS. will they?

They're pretty much the same questions. Best thing to do is read the book cover to cover and memorize it. The hazmat test is a little tricky as some things aren't in the book. There are 7ish different hazmat tests and its luck of the draw sometimes. If you get asked questions that aren't in the book you have a problem because you won't know them however that's one of those situations where they shouldn't be asking that question. Overall the test is pretty easy mine cut me off early each time didn't make me answer all of the questions on the computer. General knowledge is common sense, air brake is fairly straight forward remember 2 and 3 and 3 and 4 for air loss rates. And the trolley bar isn't a parking brake, tank is pretty easy, combination once again is mainly common sense, and hazmat is the pita. I don't have a hazmat enforcement but have taken the test twice passed both times, just never got fingerprinted and wasted the money on it. Good luck have fun and for gods sake make sure you clicked the right button before clicking submit.

Could be worse, you could live in New York. I have to get an endorsement for flatbedding (the one endorsement I didn't study for and missed). The only state that requires an endorsement for it...
Also, don't be afraid to just retake the tests right there if you fail. In NY, it's 5 bucks to retest. You know to take all the tests together, right? Well, in NY at least, any amount of tests or endorsements you take are one price all together, then retesting is the same and only costs 5 bucks. If you're at a nice DMV, if you fail a test, they might tell you what ones you missed. That's what happened with at least one guy in my class. -
Great, Central tech says I only need Gen/Air/Combo permit to be accepted, is that their specific policy, or should I go ahead and study up on the whole shebang, I am taking tankers now and the info seems easy enough

Here in Oklahoma tests and permits are free, and if fail they charge for retake, but free retake if wait so many days after failing, I feel confident I'll pass I just want to do as good as possible, 90% is good but 100% is better, ill keep taking the practices, keep reading and try to remember everything.
[SIDE NOTE] : I am nowhere near mechanically inclined, when my step dad was rebuilding trannies, I was programming computers, or Cooking -
If you are not mechanically inclined, study hard on pre trip. It's basic stuff but might be a bit of a challenge for you if you aren't prepared. I don't know about the general knowledge test in Oklahoma but the one in Texas had a couple of odd questions. I don't remember them exactly but there was one that asked about which vehicle had to carry a fire extinguisher. I forget all the answers but one was gravel truck and one was a taxi. They didn't say what kind of gravel truck, could have been a 1/2 ton with a dump box or whatever. My mind was thinking Class A CDL not focusing on the question. I missed that one without a doubt.
The correct answer was taxi as they carry passengers. I wanted to kick my self for not taking the time and trying to understand the question better since it confused me.
As long as you are in test taking and study mode, take all of them if you can. Knowledge is power.sindrake Thanks this.
