I would think they should be doing the skills test every day.Backing is what most fail at when it comes to testing out at the DMV.

No you tube like somebody said (Patti?)...

if the problem is on the left turn your wheel to the left...if you're backing of course or if your brain works this way better, I want the trailer to go right so I turn the wheel to the left...

when you are waiting your turn watch the driver that's in the seat...try to predict which way the driver needs to turn the wheel to correct

Little trick I found.....somewhere.....place your hands on the bottom of the steering wheel, palms down and point your thumbs at each other. Which way do you want/need the trailer to move.....choose the thumb that agrees with your decision and rotate the steering wheel in the direction that the thumb is pointing. May not work for everyone but it works for me.

Thank you for all the hints. I went into school today and practiced the skills all day. Lone and behold, there were times I aced them. Yes, there were times that I had to work on them, but lets not go there right now.
The main point is that I improved and know that I am able to do them.

    UsualSuspect Thanks this.

When I tested I aced straightline, offset, and parallel parking. The 90 degree alley dock for me required a pullup, which I did not get a deduction for as I pulled up from the same direction about 6 feet. The only reason I knew how to fix it was from the numerous not so great attempts on the pad while practicing. Don't be too hard on yourself for making a mistake, you learned from it.

Was able to do them at practice before the test yesterday. Got thru the pre trip, air brakes excellent. Got thru the straight line, but bombed the parallel parking. Just panicked and was a bog of sweat. So I go back and retest for a second time. Its ok, yes I am bummed, but one part is out of the way which is good.

You can do it, so many others before you have. Just relax, stop if you need to, think about what you want the trailer and tractor to do, then do it. Don't over think it and make it more complicated than it is, what I have to do is say it out loud as I am steering through it. You can do this.
