One company does though. Don't remember the name, but have to give them your bank account numbers and pin numbers. Some outfit out of Nigeria.

I graduated from Best last month. The trucking company is in Kernersville, the school in Burlington. I think overall they’re a good school. My class was small which was good. They were short on instructors or pulling the instructors they did have to run loads for the trucking side so some days we just stood around watching the classes that were farther along and graduating soon practice their backing.
Our class of 4 was split so we could cram our drive and observation time. We did have two really good instructors with years of experience and learned a lot but my whole class agreed that we needed more practice before graduating. All 4 of us did pass our final tests though.
You’ll get back what you put in. Pay attention, do what your instructors say and study and you’ll do fine.RollinChaos Thanks this. -

In my case I need to get my license asap so I can in turn get health insurance and income flowing in.
Yes it is a gamble to pay for class upfront then find job after. In 4 weeks I hope to be in a much different position, ncmickey Thanks this. -

I'm in Rowan county, which has the same CDL job market as Guilford county..
Caldwell Community College use to do a manual class out that way that was around two months with decent recruiters. It's covered by a WIOA grant which pretty much every born citizen can get inside a day.. They test out at the school on 321 so on test day you got to drive out there, but they set the classes up all over; the instructors are all 30+ year drivers.
I know of some contract-freight companies there with drop lots, then you have R+L and a lot of grocery company terminals like Sharp; Sharp has Aldi contracts. I'm assuming everyone who is going to read this is going local so I won't list the OTR and Regional companies..
A lot of the trucking jobs out that way are hopper and step deck nepotist fleets. The best you can actually apply for will be the LTL and grocery companies with terminals.. If you want manual-van you can go to B.A.H. on 85 towards concord, but it's .58 a mile and garbage equipment, then there are trash-fleets to watch out for too like Swing Transport which is basically Western Express with a day cab division..
If I was fresh out of school and lived in Greensboro and didn't have connections I'd go to U.S. Express; 24/7 Drop lots A.K.A. parking all over where you live, and contract freight..Last edited: Oct 29, 2024

I've got a few big carriers in mind but will see what plays out.ncmickey Thanks this.
