License is up for renewal in 2020. This time around they want two forms of proof of residency. Like some OTR drivers, now that I’m back in the game I plan to live in my truck and take home time at the terminal. Doesn’t make sense to pay two grand in rent for somewhere I might only be four-five days out of the month, so how do i satisfy these new requirements?

You aren't required to get a "real ID", but without it you cant get on an airplane, or military base, federal courthouse, etc. Living in your truck at a terminal, Im not sure how you could satisfy the reqirement to get the "real ID"

Use some friend or relative address with a fake lease/rental agreement. Your CDL address will have to match.
Even better if you know someone in "no state income tax" state.
What's the address on your current cdl? Get a lease or rent agreement that matches that address.

I was told it was a requirement for all CDL renewals regardless. Trust me I hate flying I could live my whole life and never get on a plane but losing my trucking job is a different story

Just get the passport. It’ll do everything the real ID DL does. Even get the real ID passport.

As a side note, I'm wondering how this will work when I have to appear in a federal court case as a witness with no 'real id' crap?

I asked a US marshal that works Court House security this very question a while back. He said that Real ID business is for routine business in the courthouse. If you lack this ID they can still get you into the courtroom after clearing security like people with the ID. Also BTW you can fly without the Real ID too, the TSA has backup procedures to get you on board in case of an emergency. As of today I still have not got my secure ID yet. My ID card is not up for renewal just yet.

For over 20 years I have had a PO Box listed on my drivers license. This was due to a rash of car break-ins in my town and we were advised to put a PO Box on the license since thieves were stealing car registrations and garage clickers and breaking into houses in broad daylight by driving right into the victims' garage.

Went to renew my license and have to show two paper proofs of residency with both the PO Box and physical address on same documents. Couldn't produce anything like that so my license has been renewed to non real ID. I still have an active Passport which will get me on an airplane.

I have wondered if you are saving any trouble by getting a passport. I might do some research into it, but I have a suspicion the documents needed for a passport are very similar to the Read ID. It would seem silly to me for the Federal Government to mandate Real ID to enter most restricted Federal property then go ahead and allow less scrutiny for a passport that bypasses that security. However, the Federal Government can pull some boners!

in my state,(and i think as per the feds) it is required to have 2 proofs of residency, like the gas or electric bill, cable bill, etc, in YOUR name, and a state certified birth certificate. so yeah, you can "have a friends address" as your address, but then you will need one more item a bill of some sort, with your name on it as well.

but i retired and just got an ordinary operators license, as i have a passport.

i could spend the $26.00 my state wants and get an REAL ID, if i want, but......i dunno.
