Hi, I just got my permit today and passed gen knowledge, air brakes and combination. I’m a rookie when it comes to all of this so I don’t know if I’m just stupid but I’m seeing on my permit under “commercial/medical restrictions” it says “L/1”. I know the “1” is for my corrective lenses but am confused why there is an L since I passed air brakes? Can someone clarify if I got screwed or if I’m just stupid. The lady down at the dmv seemed new because she was confused to the whole cdl permit process and needed to ask other employees for help multiple times which is making me think she messed up my permit and I’m gonna have to go back down there to get it fixed.
Cdl permit Air brake restriction?

Go to a different DMV and ask. Show your permit and ask the questions there.
Many drivers do this. One DMV is very professional and efficient and one in the next town has no idea what they're doing.
You're not stupid, but the people at the DMV you dealt with may be.SoulScream84, tscottme and Sons Hero Thank this. -

I think the DMV made a mistake on your permit.

From what I can tell you have a CDL A with ONLY an eyeglasses restriction! You're GOOD to go!
Edited.
There is a difference between the L and Z restriction. If that was a Z then it is a mistake. There is a possibility that L is there because you have not passed your driving test yet. I would contact your local DMV to make sure BEFORE you start training!
These DMV clerks can make mistakes, but sometimes things like this are generated by the system.Last edited: Aug 19, 2023

@Moose1958 is right, you don't have any endorsements until you pass the road test. If you passed the road test today you would would have you air-brake qualification.

READ THIS CAREFULLY OP.
The 'L' ON YOUR PERMIT INDICATES IT IS A LEARNERS PERMIT.
IF IT WAS A RESTRICTION, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN UNDER THE ENDORSEMENTS SECTION OF THE PERMIT.SoulScream84 and wis bang Thank this. -
As I said in another thread I am battling Covid again. I went through my old records and found my voided-out old CDls from Georgia and Virginia. I had no air brake endorsement on any of them. As I linked to in post 5 air brake is a restriction listed on the restricted part of the CDL. On all 3 of my old hard copies, those restrictions are also listed on the back with a full description of what they are.
What appears in that photo are 3 separate columns. Class, endorsements, and restrictions. It's difficult to tell if that L means learners or does it mean no full air brakes? However, the endorsements part of that permit is clearly blank! -
