    Hi all,
Looking to get cdl and need to know what companies are maybe in San Antonio, Houston, Laredo, etc that wouldn’t be hard to get home time from if I live in Corpus Christi. Maybe I could do Dallas, but not sure how getting home works if there is no terminal near me. Don’t have 5k for school and got turned down for grants via workforce. I’m 55, retired teacher and ready to keep working. I might just save up a few months so I can get manual training at local college in town.

Good idea to get manual training.
Also, you don't need a terminal near you to get hometime; just need a safe place to park the truck.

Due to the current freight environment, I recommend tankers, refrigerated, flatbed trucking.

Schneider has tankers and the tanker training is in Houston.
I think Schneider requires you to do a few months of dry van driving first though.
I'd put this one at the bottom of the list.
Tanker pays pretty well, but dry van doesn't.

    Drivers - KLLM Transport Services
This is an excellent refrigerated company. CDL school is in Lancaster, TX and maybe pays for school in Houston.
I'd definitely contact a recruiter about this company and cdl training.
Submit the "Quick Apply" on the opening page to have a recruiter contact you. This is the best way to get accurate information quickly.

China town showed you western dairy. I'm got trained and hired at 64 yrs. Doing otr but they have local. Pay isn't the best but it's not bad for starters. I live in south TX ( mcallen) and stay out for 3-4 was but completely my call. Working for them 2 yrs pays for the schooling. Smoothbore tanker , I only want to pull tankers. Better than vans.

I did not expect this level of response and truly appreciate it! I will contact kllm and western. I’m in Corpus Christi so Houston would be great for training. Western seems best since I can get that tanker endorsement too. I’ve heard Schneider is lowest paying to start so I’ll look at them and Stevens last if needed.
