Send Rerun a pm. He is an instructor. He can most likely answer your questions.
Welcome to the forum. -
When I was up in IL I checked on an instructor job. The state requires 5 years road experience and you get certified by taking a test.
TX is probably similar. I would call a local school and ask them. They might hire you too. -
I found this.... evidently TX is more relaxed and has no state requirements.
You want to work for CR England in Cedar Hill, TX? They could use some quality trainers.
14 openings? Must go through them like drivers. From diapers to a suit you can get a job there.
scottied67 Thanks this. -
Hmmmmmmmm! Is CR England is pulling a fast one? Maybe they have a remote test like IL.

I found your answer....scottied67 Thanks this. -
Here's the requirements off of the application. Don't forget the $75 fee.

In Ca. you just have to impress the school honchos to get hired. Technically, you have to be certified by the state, which means you pass the skills and road test to do so. In Az., no certification needed.

Yeah- Cali dropped the instructor training requirement a while back. Now, only the school needs to be approved by the BPPE. Anyone with a CDL can be an instructor.

i got certified by my state Board of Governors for Higher Education and the DMV as an instructor. My employer pays it all.
then you might need to become a "Brake Inspector" under 49 CFR Part 396.25...so that YOU can teach brake adjustments as well. I got that this past summer. I got this for free by the way as an employee, you probably would too.
when i went for CVTA certification, my employer paid for those tests and i got a bonus for each time i earned a "level" of certification......
the CVTA certification is "voluntary for now" but may soon be required when the schools must become federally approved in the near future.
then you have the NSC (national safety council) training you could go thru, in order to teach and certify students in the "defensive driving course"..the cost of that certification can be $400 per instructor, which again, the school pays...BUT if a school already has 1 or 2 NSC certified instructors, they may NOT want anymore, as the cost is too high to get every instructor NSC certified.
so there CAN BE a lot involved to be an instructor, or very little, it all depends on YOUR state requirements....and by the way, your "license" to teach in YOUR state, DOES NOT allow you to teach in other states......BUT, if students FROM other states go to where YOU ARE, then you can teach them......
expect to get paid (on average) $600 to $1,200 per week.......gross.....depending on seniority, certifications, experience, etc,etc....
expect to work 40 or 50 hours per week, (7 day schedules) usually full benefits, and eat YOUR food, and sleep IN YOUR bed.....
buy a whistle.....you're gonna need one.........the safety vest (the schools give then to you), and you HAD BETTER WEAR IT.......or get yer @zz run over....!!!
good luck.......
keep Tylenol Extra Strength in your locker.......
P.S.
the more you obtain as an instructor, the more you look real good to an employer if you decide to go back to driving...... -
CA is pretty weird too....I thought the instructor from the DMV here would have to have a CDL to test me....no so.
