I have my cdl for over 20 years and works as a diesel mechanic, Now I was thinking about starting drive but don't have otr experience. I called several companies but no one is hiring long time cdl holder with no experience. Some of them are telling me that I have to do a refreshing course which I do not want to do. I have haz mat and tank endorsement and clean driving record. Was hoping to find a dedicated or regional position or team otr. Here are a list of companies that I called.
Prime, Swift, US Express, KLLM, Covenant, CRST, Werner, CR england, Roehl, Act, Bulkley, Climate express, Fcc, Stevens, Hogan.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

My company has some Houston-based drivers, you might give them a try.

Part of your problem is your timing.
The CDL general freight market right now (and for the foreseeable future) is pretty bad.
Thus -- carriers have been forced to do some serious belt-tightening.
This would also include tightening up their hiring requirements.
For drivers with little to no previous experience -- this produces something of a hiring ultimatum.

Thus -- right now, it's pretty slim pickin's.....
I noticed in your above list -- you didn't include Schneider.
Schneider will have 3 recruiting events in Houston for the month of September.
Those will all occur at:
1415 Penn City Road
Houston, TX 77015
The first one is Sept 7 -- from 10 am to 3 pm.
The second one is Sept 19 -- also from 10 am to 3 pm.
Third is Sept 25 -- " " " ".
Schneider does tanker training for new drivers in the Houston area.
That's one option you could ask about.....
I used to drive for Schneider -- but I have no affiliations with them now.

If.....for whatever reasons....Schneider should give you the cold shoulder as well....
you could also try Frey Miller -- they hire and train those with no prev exp:

You are certainly not alone. We, this site, gets this a lot. The best answer to come along, would be inconclusive. In other words, doesn't make a lick of sense. A refresher course, while a slap in the face for many, isn't the worst thing, and you'll probably breeze right through it. Some companies may encourage and even pay for it, but on your own, you don't have a prayer. I think what happened, is these companies took anyone and they wound up in a pileup in Dallas last year, and insurance companies, who rule the roost, are finally clamping down. You can go it without a refresher, but will end up unhappy with less than credible companies. It's a crummy way to get experience.

You get paid for doing a refresher course. Insurance companies probably require it.
Won't do any good to call companies. Submit the apps on the trucking company websites, then wait a few days and call, "I'm checking on my driving job application." Most companies have short apps that takes about 1 minute to fill out.Jaguar115 Thanks this. -

No, you won't be put in a truck and sent on your way. You'll have to get some training/refresher.
