Hello I want to get my cdl class b license, I already have my permit for class b. I am planning to drive a manual transmission dump truck. When I get my license.
I currently live in Phoenix AZ, and I am not able to find a place that will rent me a dump truck to take my test. I haved email Ryder company to rent a Straight truck, and they said they do not rent for cdl testing purposes.
will a tractor by itself work for testing?
The School I will be testing at, only has a automatic straight truck and I will have a restriction on my license if I past.
Which other vehicle can I use to test for cdl class b license. Can I use a Tractor bobtail to test in? Like the one in the picture?
    Thank You.

A Road Tractor without a trailer is a Class B vehicle. I do not know if an examiner giving the road test will accept it.

Don't over think this. Class B vehicles is any straight vehicle with a weight rating over 26,001 Pounds. Get a copy of your states Commercial Drivers manual. There should be examples of such vehicles in it.

    Good luck with the testing!

They should accept it, I've tested with one before. It is a legal class B vehicle as long as it has no trailer that has the GVW over 10k on it.

HOWEVER do not drive it there alone, if you have a permit, then driving with a class B or A driver is required and the examiner may not even give you a road test because of it.

Will I be able to test with no trailer hook on to it? Just the tractor by itself?
Thank You for your help Ridgeline.

Be careful with this. A vehicle over 10,001 and under 26,001 is only defined as a CMV, you DO NOT NEED A CDL to operate it. Once you get above the 26,001 weight rating then the CDL law comes into play. I have seen examiners decline to CDL test in vehicles under that 26,001 weight rating. Last time was in Georgia. I highly advise ANYONE doing CDL testing to do so in the proper class and weight rating.

    Thank You.
