When I was younger I had a few run in's with law, no felonies though. I did not reveal this to my current employer because the state I'm in they are only allowed to go back 7 years on a background check. This company is now putting me through CDL school and I wondering if my DOT background check will reveal these convictions?

Never heard of a CDL background check. There is one for the hazmat endorsement but they are looking for felonies or stuff that would cause you to be a risk.

And not all felonies are exclusionary for a haz mat endorsement. Writing bad checks won't matter. Being arrested for terrorism might cause an issue.

For Hazmat don't be like this guy..

They'll most likely use HireRight. All HireRight has access to is public records and information from those willing to give it to them. As long as you technically didn't lie in the application you're good to go. Good luck, Driver.

Just getting a CDL is a quick check to the database to make sure you only have one CDL. After that is just a MVR check. The DMV clerk can do this in just a few minutes. Outside of MVR I know of no other checks.

my main complaint is I do not know if I can get my Class A CDL updated without a current medical checkup?

Your run ins with the law likely wont stop you from driving a truck but may end your career with that particular company. I dont know who you are with but some companies do VERY extensive background checks. Not because they care what you did but because they care how much you ########. So depending on what exact information they asked you for, you find yourself in a meeting in the near future. Assuming they are even able to find these records at all. Personal exp it is best to just be honest, as a class a driver you can throw a stone down an ally and get 5 job offers. You may have to prove yourself to get the ones you want but it's better to be upfront.
