It's not all bad, but there are some problems.
The teaching/instruction (classroom and range) are great. Road instruction is 50/50, depending on who you get. One guy is great, the other is a real piece of work.
But the real problem are the recruiters. Other than and dates of my school and the fact that I would have a CDL when I graduated, most everything else he said was way less than truthfull. Ethics, at least with the recruiters, are non-existent.

If you don't mind me asking , how much is the tuition at the south bend school? Also how many students are in the truck at one time? I'm considering going to this school, because its close to me.

Tuition is $6k. My class started out with 16, but we ended up with 7 by the end of our 3 weeks. Both classes following us were bigger. 20ish or so.
They had 3 training (road) trucks, plus at least another that was used for Michigan students so I think they can handle large classes.
Most people had to drop out becasuse they were told something that was completely worng by their recuriter - which of course wasn't reality.
But the instruction was pretty good. Especially classroom and range.
No matter what you're recuiter says:
a. meals are NOT provided
b. there is NO "shuttle" between the hotel and the school
c. you WILL pay for the school. Trucking companies don't just "take care of it"
d. they DO charge interest - over 20%
e. if you are from out of state , you DO have to re-take portions of the CDL to get it transfered back into your home state - at least if it's Ohio
Plus a host of some other things.
and of course the place is in need for a serious cleaning!
They will however, get your your CDL and give you the basics of driving a truck. Just don't believe a thing your recuirter says.rlmark Thanks this. -
PDI in New Buffalo, MI isn't bad thay do indiana and michigan and its not much further than south bend. that's where my hubby went. you get lots of truck time. $3500 if you pay cash i think it is around $6000 if you finanace thru them.
