Purplerain...I know you mean well, but, that doesn't exactly help. And, of course, by now, whatever info you have to base it on has probably changed. Can you elaborate?

I leased on in 2014-15 Lowest Rates, I've ever seen on Hazmat Tanker. They don't pay a fuel surcharge it's all line-haul,so every thing, Fuel,Fuel Tax ,Base Plates,Escrow (required),Insurance, Occ and btw you pay for Cargo insurance on the customers freight Per Load. After all said and done not much to Net. Also for every one New Owner Hired 2-4 quit over in here Pasadena. Btw loads cancel everyday and you usually find out at about 455pm five mins before Dispatch goes Home. No loads for Days or a week at a Time. My Truck is paid for and only netted 900 a week. You can Stay Home literally with CBSL no Freight,or Cheap Rates.

That may of been true in 2008, but not today. While Chicago is the smallest terminal, we seem to stay really busy. Tankers are up and down everywhere, so keep that in mind.

Rates are low, but still equal or higher then Henniff, Miller, QC and others. What makes up for the low rate is the fact we only pay 1.25 gal for fuel. (If we fuel at a Pilot/J it's $1.20 gal)

We also have the highest Comp/Pump pay then anyone. If you were only making $900/week, something was wrong. If I worked all 5 days, min i've made was $2500 with max being almost $4000. (I had a lot of pump loads and pre-loads done for me.)

We get dmrg after an hour in rail yards and 2 at customer. On ISO tanks, that can start to add up.
While it's not perfect, it's not a bad deal if you want to be home couple times a week and on weekends.

(I will admit paying 1-2% towards cargo insurance does get under my nerves)

Any current info on CBSL in Houston? I just applied. It would be my first tank/hazmat job. I can come on as an o/o or a company driver. Im leaning towards company so i can feel it out and learn the job before buying my first truck. And info is appreciated.

They're are better companies to work for, especially in the Houston area. CBSL was fine years ago, but I'd never lease a truck on with them now. I needed a year tanker experience. I got it and left exactly at one year. Way too cheap for me now that I know what the rates really are.

Thanks for the heads up. A friend of mine at Trimac has been trying to get me on over there but seems like work has slowed down for them and they recentry handed out pay cuts. Im currently local with one overnight every couple of weeks. I'll be out one night a week this coming year. I take home anywhere from 1600-2000 bi weekly working 45-50 hoirs a week. Im looking for more money but wanna be home often and weekends. I may try my luck with containers. Im bored of LTL type stuff and food service looks like it sucks. I have been planning on buying a truck to pull containers regionally but taking a hard look at everything available before pulling the trigger this next year. I have haz and tank endorsments.

I should clarify. I made money as CBSL Chicago, but I bought a compressor & pump. I tried too stay as short as possible and since I was only one of 3 guys with a compressor/pump, I got a lot of those loads. (We made a killing on the air/pump charges) In Chicago they rate everything under 100 miles as a tariff rate, so you'd makes more money going across the street then you would doing a 300-400 round trip load. I can't speak for Houston or even Chicago at this point, almost everyone I knew is gone.
