Bought a new-to-me/used Freightliner. I am trying to install my General Lee I got from Radioactive Radios. Radio has a plug with + and - wires. Tractor CB hole has an old connector that won't fit my radio. The wires in the hole are yellow and yellow? No differentiation between the two yellow wires. How do I know which wire is + and which is - ? Also, looks like someone spliced into the wires to hook up a fan hanging over the dash? Looks like they cut the fan wires sometime down the road. I don't see any wires that are separate to power the fan. Could splicing in the fan harm the radio? Maybe cause static thus the cut wires?

Yes it could cause "dirty power" as in noise in the radio. I doubt it would hurt it. I wouldn't recommend it. One of those wires should have a black stripe. That's your ground wire.

Remove the spliced wires and keep that power for your radio only to keep it clean.

If there is no black stripe, use a multimeter to find the hot wire.

Um, I wouldn't hook anything to those old unmarked wires.

Find out where they go and get rid of them and then run your own wiring.

Factory freight liners often have yellow wires factory stock. The wire is safe to use.

Yeah, I guess you're probably right, I just didn't like the fact that he said they had already been spliced in to.

Me neither. I'd cut the wire back where the splices are and hook my cb power adapter to it. That way you have no exposed copper.

    WA4GCH Thanks this.

Just get a cheapo little crimper tool and a couple of splicers. They are color coded to size. Red should be the right size for cb wires. Blues could be made to work with extra crimping. Yellows are way too big. I'm not a CB expert but I did used to professionally install car audio lol.

Yup. Crimp connectors used to be my hero when I installed audio systems lol.

Used a few inside of computers too heh heh. Sleeve the wire and you'd never know.
