I'm getting an Occasional Buzz/Hum when i'm Keying up. What had happen was going down the pike a cardboard box flew up and took the antenna halfway out the stud. i screwed the antenna back in and every since then i hear this buzz while keying up. It goes in and out, if i was to grab the Mic cord it stops, so i change the CB Mic and it does the same thing!!

So do i have to get a new Stud and antenna?? or is my radio fried??

I'd start with replacing the stud then check swr or vice versa

I'd say it is time to replace that particular antenna.the solder that connects the stud to the antenna internally is more than likely broken. I have had two francis, the 5.5' ones, break at the point you reference.one snapped and just swung down going down the road and the other hit a limb,or i hit the limb-whatever,and it separated like that, sliding up and down in the mounting end. Lots more ground noise became prevelant and was eliminated w/a new antenna, another francis.

rollingradios knows his stuff and should be listened to when he offers advice, but I'm going with x#1 on this one........especially if a Francis is involved! (I run Francis' too)

Francis antennas are just not what they used to be but I still will swear by them! and the bang for the buck just can't be topped-
